iPhone Dev-Team has just updated their PwnageTool and ultrasn0w tools to support devices running iOS 4.3.2. PwnageTool 4.3.2 and ultrasn0w 1.2.2 support untethered jailbreak from i0nic. Sadly though, this ultrasn0w update does not include any new baseband support.

iPhone Dev-Team has updated the ultrasn0w iPhone unlock to version 1.2.1. The newer ultrasn0w does not support newer basebands, it is just a compatibility fix for iOS 4.3.1 and is useful for those who are having older, unlockable basebands. This update also fixes the signal bar issue for those who aren’t using the unlock but preserved an older baseband intentionally.

So if you are facing the above issues, just jailbreak your iPhone using Pwnage tool or Sn0wbreeze and preserve your baseband.

Now open Cydia and search for ‘ultrasn0w’ and install it. Reboot your device and it should be unlocked now.

iH8Sn0w has released his Snowbreeze 2.2 tool for Windows that will allow Windows users to create custom iOS 4.2.1 firmware. Using Sn0wbreeze 2.2 you can update your iPhone 4, 3GS or 3G to ‘pre-jailbreaked’ iOS 4.2.1 without upgrading to the new baseband so that you can unlock your iPhone with ultrasn0w.

Dev Team has released PwnageTool 4.2 to untether jailbreak iOS 4.2.1. PwnageTool 4.2 uses the greenpois0n‘s exploit to untether jailbreak your iOS 4.2.1 device. It will update your iPhone to pre-jailbreaked iOS 4.2.1 without upgrading to the new baseband so that you can unlock your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS. You will need a Mac to run PwnageTool 4.2.

Things you need

PwnageTool 4.2 (Download Link)

iOS 4.2.1 for your device

• iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3GS
• iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 4

1 ) Now Open PwnageTool and click ‘Expert Mode’ at the top, then click the device you’d like to jailbreak.

2 ) Click “Browse for IPSW and browse for the iOS 4.2.1 you just downloaded.

Step 4: Click ‘General’ and select functions as needed.

• ‘Activate the phone’ – Hacktivates the phone if previously unlocked
• ‘Enable baseband update’ – Performs the baseband update (DO NOT CHECK THIS IF YOU RELY ON A ULTRASNOW UNLOCK)
• There are options to re-enable functionality, which are specifically for the iPhone 3G. If you need them, check them off.

Step 5: Click the arrow to apply the changes.

Step 6: Install custom packages and cydia sources as needed, then click build to save your custom IPSW file, you may be asked to enter your Mac OS user password.

Step 7: When prompted, connect your device via USB and follow the instructions for entering DFU mode.

Step 8: Open iTunes. iTunes will tell you it has detected a device in recovery mode. IMPORTANT: PRESS OPTION AND CLICK RESTORE. Do not simply press restore, this will upgrade your device to stock 4.2.1, and WILL upgrade your baseband (which is irreversible). A dialog box will open and allow you to choose the firmware bundle to restore with. Choose the custom created bundle.

Step 9: Wait for the restore to complete, and enjoy your untethered jailbreak!

Unlockers on an unlockable baseband can simply install ultrasn0w and unlock. For help in installing UltraSn0w use this guide (Link)

The Chronic Dev Team has released its GreenPois0n tool for Windows and Mac to untether jailbreak iOS 4.2.1. Unlock for iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 is not available yet so if you have to unlock your device then stay away for now. iPhone 3GS users will have to use a custom ipsw to upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 using Pwnage tool if they aren’t already using iOS 4.2.1 If you are using iOS 4.2.1 on your iPhone 3GS then jailbreak with GreenPois0n using this guide then follow this guide (link) to unlock with ultrasn0w.

What we need

iOS 4.2.1 for your device

• iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3GS
• iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 4

GreenPois0n for Windows (link1, link2) or Mac (link1, link2)

Note: If you are already running iOS 4.2.1 with tethered jailbreak on your device then leave step 1 and skip to step 2.

1 ) If your device is not running iOS 4.2.1 then update it using iTunes (iPhone 4 unlockers should stay away)

2 ) Extract the GreenPois0n file to your desktop

3 ) Now open the GreenPois0n.exe file you just extracted on your desktop.

4 ) Turn off your device and click on Prepare to DFU button

5 ) Now Carefully follow the instructions on your screen to put your device in DFU mode

Press and hold the power button

Without releasing the power button, press the home button

Release the power button with releasing the Home Button

6 ) Now leave your device and computer for sometime while GreenPois0n prepares to jailbreak your device. You should see some programming codes and GreenPois0n image on your device (It would take a few minutes).

7 ) When prompted click on the Quit button.

8 ) Now when your iPhone restarts you will see a new icon on your Springboard named ‘Loader’. Tap on this icon and Press to select Cydia then press the large Install Cydia button that appears on your device.

9 ) Once Cydia has been installed on your device successfully you can remove ‘Loader’ by pressing the Options button then the large red Remove Loader.app button.

10 ) Restart your iPhone to run Cydia.

Now your device is jailbroken, you can unlock it (if possible) using Ultrasn0w, for help follow this guide (Link).

Chronic Dev Team has released the updated version of its GreenPois0n jailbreak tool for iPhone to untether jailbreak iOS 4.2.1. Greenpois0n RC5 allows you to untethered jailbreak your iOS device running 4.2.1 without any saved SHSH blob. Sadly the tool is only available for Mac users at the moment, and no date has been given for Windows release.

Those of you who need to unlock their devices should stay away from iOS 4.2.1. Those of you who are already having tether iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak using RedSn0w do not need to restore iOS 4.2.1 again, just run the greenpois0n to get untethered jailbreak.

Renowned iPhone hacker MuscleNerd has just confirmed that iPhone unlock will not be released until the official release of iOS 4.2.5 (that is in the Verizon iPhone) and iOS 4.3 (that is said to be coming in March). This delay will come as a bad news for those who are waiting for this release to unlock their iPhone 4s on 3.10.01 and 2.10.04 basebands.

He said

“Official iPhone unlock statement: no unlock will be release until after 4.2.5 or official 4.3 (whichever is last) is out”

This tweet of MuscleNerd confirms @Comex’s release delay too as he yesterday said that he is don’t know and he might release the untethered jailbreak after iOS 4.2.5.

If you are eagerly waiting for iPhone 4 basband 2.10.04 unlock then here is a good news for you. Here is a tweet by Dev Team member Sharif Hashim in which he has replied to @Gerger2001 confirming that iPhone 4 Baseband 2.10.04 unlock will be out before January 2011. Sherif Hashim found an exploitable baseband crash that could bring an unlock for basebands 05.14.02 and 02.10.04 back in November but very little has been heard about it since then, and nothing definitive as to the timing on a new ultrasn0w for iOS 4.1 and 4.2. So this reply to @Gerges2001 have refreshed the hopes in those waiting for the unlock.

@Gerges2001 asked (Translation): I’m going to perform military service by January 16, will I get the unlock before this date?

And Hashim replied to @Gerges 2001 saying: “Sure ”.

Here is a step by step guide on how to Jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2.1. Follow all the steps below to successful jailbreak and unlock your device using RedSn0w 0.9.6b5. If you have an iPhone 3GS with the new bootrom you will only be able to perform a tethered jailbreak at this time. This means you will need Redsn0w’s assistance to boot into your jailbroken device.

Those of you having tether jailbreak can untether your iOS 4.2.1 here. After it you won’t need RedSn0w every time you reboot your device. (link)

Note for Unlockers
During this process you can update your baseband to the 06.15 version. If you are on 05.14 or 05.15 or higher you will need to do this to unlock. You do not need to do this for jailbreak only. Please read the following very carefully before deciding whether to do this.

1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).

Don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to! Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks.

Things you need

• RedSn0w 0.9.6b5 here

Select your model

• iOS version 4.2.1 for iPhone 3GS: iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw
• iOS version 4.2.1 for iPhone 3G : iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

1 ) Create a folder on your desktop Download RedSn0w and iOS 4.2.1 (links above) and place the files in ‘Pwnage’ folder you just created called Pwnage

2) Download RedSn0w (extract it) and iOS 4.2.1 (links above) and place the files in ‘Pwnage’ folder you just created

3 ) Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes and select your iPhone from the list of devices, now hold shift button and click on the Restore button.

Note: If you are already on iOS 4.2.1 skip this step.

4 ) Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 4.2.1 firmware ipsw. Click the Choose button to continue.

Note: If you are already on iOS 4.2.1 skip this step.

5 ) Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware open the Pwnage folder on your desktop and launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.

Note: If you are already on iOS 4.2.1 skip this step.

6 ) Now open the Pwnage folder on your desktop and launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.

7 ) Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button

8 ) Select the 4.2.1 firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open.

You will be asked if this device is a newer fixed model. If yours is then click the Yes button; otherwise, click the No button. At this time you can only perform an untethered jailbreak on the older model.

Once the firmware gets verified click the Next button to continue.

9 ) Let RedSn0w to prepare Jailbreak data.

10 ) From this window you can select the jailbreak options you would like make sure Cydia is selected.

If you read the warning above and you would like to update your baseband to the 06.15 iPad version for unlock then check Install iPad Baseband. Click Yes when prompted to confirm your decision.

11 ) Click the Next button to continue

12 ) Plug iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button.

13 ) RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. Follow the instructions displayed on your Screen.

14 ) Your iPhone should now reboot

15 ) RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.

16 ) Once uploading is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPhone finishes rebooting (might take 5 minutes or more) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

17 ) Done!

*If you have a newer iPhone 3GS and performed a tethered jailbreak you can use Redsn0w to help you boot back into your jailbroken device. Simply select Just boot tethered right now from the options window and click Next.
