Japanese site Kodawarisan reports that Apple will hold its fall media event on Wednesday, September 7th. This is the event on which Apple usually announces new iPods and does other iTunes related announcements. Apple has traditionally held this event in the first 10 days of September as in last three years the event was hosted on 9th September, 2008, 9th September 2009, and September 1st 2010.

This year’s event is going to be different as instead of or along with iPods, Apple is expected to announce its rumored iPhone 5.

Now the question arises that whether Apple is going to announce new iPhone with the new iPods in this media event if it is actually going to take place or we will just have new iPods on September 7th and Apple will hold a separate event for the iPhone 5 later in the month or in October. There are several reports claiming that iPhone 5 won’t be released until October 2011.

According to the rumors, iPhone 5 is going to feature A5 Dual-Core chip, 1GB RAM, thinner and lighter design, larger screen, 8-megapixel camera, and much more.

Apple has introduced more than 200 new features in iOS 5, some of them are big ones whereas some of them are small ones that make using the OS even more simpler. Two such features that you might not have discovered yet in iOS 5 if you are using it are Swipe to delete music and localized domain shortcuts in Safari. Read about them after the break

Swipe to delete music: iOS’s iPod app is great, but one feature that it was lacking in these years was the ability to delete a song from within the app. If users wanted to delete any particular song from their device, the they had to connect it to iTunes and delete the unwanted song, but now in iOS 5 users are given the ability to delete a song by swiping their finger from left to right on the name of the song right on their device.

Localized Domain Shortcut in Safari: Another new feature that Apple has introduced in the Safari browser in iOS 5 is that when you tap on the .com button on you on screen keyboard, you are now shown your country’s domain with several options other than .com that you might want to use, previously it used to show .org, .net and other popular domains but now in iOS 5 it shows you your country’s official domain as well. For example if you tap on the .com button from your keyboard, then with .net, .org and others you will also see your country’s local domain that could be .uk, .us, .pk etc

You can read about more new iOS 5 features here

That’s the reason behind this quick release of untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.2. Dev-Team has updated redsn0w to untethered jailbreak iOS 4.3.2. Follow the step by step guide posted below to untethered jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 on iPod touch 3G or iPod touch 4G.

Update: How to untethered jailbreak iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G running iOS 4.3.3 using RedSn0w

Note: If you are already having the iOS 4.3.2 tethered jailbreak, then follow from the step 4.

1). Download iOS 4.3.2 for your device:

iOS 4.3.2 for iPod touch 3G

2). Restore your iPod touch to iOS 4.3.2 using iTunes. Open iTunes select your iPod from left pane and click the Restore button while holding [Shift key if you are using Windows] [Option key if you are on a Mac].

3). Navigate to the folder containing iOS 4.3.2 firmware and select it. Wait for iTunes to restore iOS 4.3.2 for you.

4). Now download redsn0w 0.9.6rc13b [Mac] [Windows]

5). Extract the downloaded file and run redsn0w.

6). Now click the Browse button and navigate to iOS 4.3.2 ipsw downloaded in the step 1. Select the firmware file and click open.

7). Wait for redsn0w to identify the firmware file. When done Next button will appear, when appeared click it.

8). Redsn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data.

9).
10). Make sure your iPod is both switched off and connected to computer.

11). Click the next button and follow the on-screen instructions to put your iPod touch into DFU mode.

Press and hold the Sleep/Power (located at top right) button for 3 seconds.

Keep holding the Sleep/Power button and press Home button (located at bottom center) for 10 seconds.

Now release the Sleep/Power button while keep holding the Home button for about 15 seconds. (redsn0w might detect your device before the 15 seconds)

12). If you followed the instructions accurately your iPod will go into DFU mode and redsn0w will start performing its magic. If not repeat the above steps.

13). Wait for redsn0w to jailbreak your device.

14).
Mophie has revealed its Pulse game grip for iPod touch 4th Generation at CES 2011, the device you can see in the image above is a prototype of the actual device but now we know how this gaming grip is going to be like. The device features 2 built in speakers that are powered by an internal battery. The grip also acts as a full body protector case and saves your iPod touch from scratches but makes it much thicker too.

Engadget, who played with this device for some time are impressed by its performance as they say Game audio, music, and even the keyboard tick sound get translated into convincing pulses and vibrations. The iPod touch interfaces with the Pulse via the 3.5mm headphone jack, and a switch on the bottom left edge turns the haptic feedback on and off.

No details about the price or availability have been revealed yet.

Following yesterday’s development a hacker named Steven Troughton-Smith has modified iRecovery application to send custom firmware files to iPod Nano 6th Generation. Hacker placed the device in DFU mode with this method – holding down the restart buttons until you get a black screen (it reboots twice) and iTunes sees the device and alerts you. Then he modified the iRecovery application to send encrypted firmware files to the iPod which were programmed to boot the device into white screen and it did.

This discovery is a big step towards fully hacking the device and jailbreaking it to add more features to it that include movies, TV shows, apps, games, vCards, calendar events, and passcode locks.

Steven hopes that his work would inspire other hackers to do the same and fully hack the device successfully and bring custom apps to it.

Since the release of the new iPod Nano back in September, people have been waiting for it to get hacked and have been expecting developers to add some of those features to the mini music player that Apple has not added to it. Now we can see some development in this regard, as a hacker has been able to hack the device and somehow has been able to perform a basic springboard hack.

I’ve successfully done a basic springboard hack, figured out how to bypass the cache comparison and uncovered some interesting stuff as whats to come on the iPod Nano.

The springboard hack is just the removal of a app and creation of a blank space. Not that amazing, but whats important is the bypass of Nano’s cache comparison, which compares any modded SB file and reverts it if it doesn’t like it, this opens up the possibility of hacking and modding, while not adding bootloaders or any of that fun stuff.

This hacking of iPod Nano might have open doors of possibilities for many features that can unofficially come to the music player in the coming days, that include movies, TV shows, apps, games, vCards, calendar events, and passcode locks. iPod Nano and its OS (that is not iOS) is capable of doing all these things according to number of references according to property list files of the device.

The hacker named James Whelton also adds that

The hack is simple. It may lead to greater things. I just don’t want people getting their hopes up that’s it’s jailbroken just yet or what I have done to be blown out of proportion.

According to James Whelton this is an important step towards hacking the device and more efforts by him and the hackers community are required to fully expose the device and increase its capabilities.
