Firefox holds a share of 31.5% whereas Google Chrome’s usage has tripled since last year, and has reached up to 11.54 percent. That is not too long ago when Microsoft’s Internet Explorer used to rule the web with a huge share of 67% worldwide but that has certainly been on decline ever since.

Here is the press release by StatCounter

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Browser Falls Below 50% of Worldwide Market for First Time – StatCounter

BOSTON & DUBLIN–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) browser has fallen below 50% of the worldwide market for the first time according to StatCounter. The company’s research arm, StatCounter Global Stats finds that Microsoft IE fell to 49.87% in September followed by Firefox with 31.5%. Google’s Chrome continues to increase market share at an impressive rate and has more than tripled from 3.69% in September 2009 to 11.54% in September this year.

“This is certainly a milestone in the Internet browser wars”
“This is certainly a milestone in the Internet browser wars,” commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter. “Just two years ago IE dominated the worldwide market with 67%.”

He added that Microsoft’s agreement with European Commission competition authorities to offer EU users a choice and menu of browsers from March may have tipped IE below 50% globally.

In Europe, IE market share has fallen to 40.26% in September this year from 46.44% in September last year. In North America IE is still above 50% at 52.3% followed by Firefox at 27.21% and Chrome at 9.87%.

The rise of Google Chrome in North America has also been impressive and in June it overtook Safari for the first time.

StatCounter Global Stats are based on aggregate data collected by StatCounter on a sample exceeding 15 billion page views per month collected from across the StatCounter network of more than 3 million websites. StatCounter, which provides free website traffic information, publishes browser stats in its StatCounter Global Stats, a free online research tool.
Have you been waiting for Firefox for your Android device? Then your wait might be coming to an end as Fennec 2.0 is all set to release in coming days and the mobile version of the most popular web browser Mozilla Firefox is going to come on one of the most popular mobile platform.

“Now things are starting to stabilize (…) we are gearing up for the first Fennec 2.0 alpha release in just a few weeks,” Mozilla’s Matt Brubeck noted in a recent blog post. Fennec 2 will run on Android and MeeGo (it has been working on Maemo for a while now).

“One of the big changes in Fennec 2 is Electrolysis, which separates content rendering and javascript into two different processes. This allows the app’s UI to be responsive while the javascript is rendering and doing its thing. It also could protect the app from crashing should it encounter pages that are script-heavy. Fennec for mobile phones will also offer Sync function that will allow you to sync tabs, bookmarks, and history from your desktop computer.”

Here are some features Fennec aims to offer.

Sync Feature to get your stuff from your desktop to your mobile device

Find In Page” utility

The ability to share links through Twitter, Facebook, Google Reader, and email

To let you send links using Android or Maemo apps (such as Bump, and other installed apps)

Address book support to assist form completion using contact data

Multi-touch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom

Later releases to include multi-touch swipe gestures to go to the top or bottom of the current page, or navigate between pages.

Want to try the early builds on your device? Here you go

While browsing through the web i came across to this image…yes its the Nexus One running Mozilla Firefox on Android Platform! We have seen similar image of the browser running on Android before but its the first time that it has been spotted running on a device live in action. In the image it looks very stable and easy to use with computer like interface and feel, it would be very easy to use for native Firefox users. Firefox for mobile project is called Fennec for Android phones. It has same navigation toolbar, menubar and tabs just like you have on your Mozilla Firefox running on computers. The browser can be landing in our Android devices soon and i guess developers are testing it on different devices for clearance (this is what what i think)…well we can’t confirm that may be we receive an image of Droid running the same browser tomorrow, or we see the release of it in some close time, only time will tell.

This is what guys at Mozilla have said about it.

You’ll note that this is the full Firefox interface, and not the Fennec/Firefox Mobile UI; we’re testing with the full interface because it’s significantly more complex than the mobile UI and stresses Gecko much more. So, if the full UI works, then Fennec should work fine as well. Given the interest in Android on netbook and tablet devices, an updated version of the full Firefox UI might find a home on some of these. Android has been pretty great to work with so far; it’s a bit unusual platform for us due to its Java core, but with the NDK we’re able to bridge things together without many problems.

We’re still a ways to go before any kind of usable alpha release, but we’re certainly one step closer. We’ll also be able to accelerate our progress now that we have some of the basic scaffolding in place. I know I’m looking forward to running Fennec on my Droid, and there are tons of Android devices coming out that should be great platforms for Fennec.

Mozilla has been updating its Firefox users in two seperate ways, means it used to make seperate updates to its browser (that were security updates and the feature updates) but now they have decided to join both the updates and now they will be updating Firefox on both basis at the same time means when the update will come then that update would be a security as well as feature update meaning new features will be introduced in it.

Before Mozilla used to separate security updates, which usually happen every couple of weeks, from feature updates, which are usually separated by months. Now, they’ve decided to change all that, drop the already announced Firefox 3.7 from the update schedule, and simply push minor feature updates together with the security updates.

This move made by Mozilla can be seemed as they have taken to facilitate its development team and it won’t effect us the users that much. It also means that all those users who don’t bother to update when a major update is out will have their updates delivered automatically – for better or for worse. The first such update is code-named “Lorentz,” and it will bring separation of plug-in processes from the browser. As for Firefox 3.6, it should still become available very soon.

Important features of the new version include Personas which lets users change the appearance of the browser with one click. the new Firefox will also alert you when your plugins are out of date, and finally, it’s optimized for small device operating systems, for example Windows CE and Maemo.

Its just the test version and Mozilla 3.6 is not officially released for use so bug may occur.

See the release notes for Firefox 3.6 RC1 here, and download it here.

Firefox 3.6 is now available for download but it is in its beta phase and even beta is not even finalized yet and final version is not out yet. This is just for testing purposes and must not be used on regular bases as bugs and other problems are expected.

As far as new features go, you can expect better JavaScript performance, new version of the rendering engine (Gecko 1.9.2), and the uber-neat tab previews. As far as rotation-related functions, we don’t have a laptop equipped with an accelerometer, but if you do, we’d like to hear your opinion in the comments!

Another new release recently posted is the release candidate for Firefox 3.5.4; since this is an update that aims to improve stability, we’d recommend most users to simply wait for the final version before upgrading.

Download it Here

Keep visiting ZJTechLive as we will be following this version of Firefox till its release.

Mozilla team is very happy and celebrating on acheiveing this milestone as it is the result of their hardwork and dedication.

Mozilla on its site speacially launched for this purpose i.e www.onebillionplusyou.com where Mozilla is shouting with joy on its success as of billion downloads. They are making it look stupid as well as some of the lines indicate that atleast for example

A bowl big enough to fit one billion goldfish would be as big as a stadium.

One billion stacked coins would reach nearly 1,000 miles high.

One billion centimeters is approximately the distance from Chicago to Tokyo.

One billion seconds is roughly 31.7 years And so on that indicates how excited they are.

The browser war after this has been made more complex as IE 8 has already got 200 million downloads. The chrome that is one of the fastest growing browser by Google is also in the race to be No 1 and google won’t let the race go away and will use its web presence to promote its browser. Mozilla marketing team is also very active these days and is advertiseing on many ad delivering services such as Adsense as you might have seen Mozilla Firefox download advertisement on our site as well. Mozilla has confirmed 175 million users earlier this year and keep one more thing in mind that downloads do not represent the users who are currently using the browser. Now we will see expansion of this war as other browser won’t let Mozilla to enjoy the feast very long and will definately come up with their strategy till then we must wait and keep reading ZJTechlive.com

Just one month ago Mozilla released 3.5 version of its web browser Firefox and just 3 weeks later they have released the screenshots of the next version of Firefox that is Firefox 4.0. The new version as can be seen in the images has a glossy new look that is very different from the previous versions. I must say that Mozilla’s engineers are working very tight as they have quickly managed to get the attention after the release of Firefox 3.5. They released these images at their Wiki. The two images released by Mozilla indicates that they cannot confirm whether the tab are going to be at the top or are going to be placed at the bottom or may be they give users the option to select either ways.

The images also indicate that Mozilla is working to make it more comfortable and compatible to work with Windows 7 that is releasing next year and i can expect that Firefox 4.0 would also be released near to it.

In addition, Mozilla summarizes the pros and cons of the two designs as

Positives:

Save Vertical Space

Efficiency/Remove Visual Complexity – Right now the tabs have to be connected to something. So we are adding an extra visual element for them to connect to.

- Shorter Mouse Distance to Page Controls

Negatives:

Breaks Consistency/Familiarity – Moving things confuses existing users.

Title is MIA – With the space removed from the titlebar you only get the truncated version in the tab.

Longer Mouse Distance to Tabs – Takes longer to mouse to a tab.

Lost Space – Sandwiched in between the application icon and the window widgets you lose some space.
