A forum member at MyDroidWorld has posted some images running Android 2.2 Froyo on his Droid X. He claims that the update should arrive for everyone within 24 hours. No one has, other then him has confirmed this update and we have heard no word from Verizon so don’t get your expectations too high. If you want to check whether your phone has been updated then check (Menu > Settings > About Phone FYI) and if you get any good news then give us a tip because that would be a treat for us!

Motorola Droid 2′s multitouch keyboard has been ported to other Android phones by XDA member invisiblek. He has ported the keyboard to the original Motorola Droid and the Droid Incredible. The new multitouch keyboard will enhance the typing experience on your phone.

You can install it via recovery on your HTC Droid Incredible, and it should work on the following ROMs:

If you haven’t got the Froyo update yet on your Droid then wait no longer and do it yourself. Follow the guide below to manually update your Droid to Android 2.2 Froyo, the download link is from Google servers so its official. Please not if you are running the stock Android 2.1 version only than you should try the following method to update your device.

manually install Android 2.2 on the Verizon Droid, perform the following steps:

1. Download the official Android 2.2 firmware from: Android 2.2 (FRG01B)
   
2. Copy the file to your microSD card and name it update.zip (newb warning: not update.zip.zip)
3. Power off your phone. Hold down the “X” button on the physical keyboard and power it back on to boot into recovery mode.
4. When you see the “/!\” symbol, press volume up and the camera button to display the recovery options.
5. Use the d-pad to navigate to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and select it.
6. When you see “Install from sdcard complete”, select “reboot system now”.
7. Done!

Motorola Droid is going to get the latest version of Android OS i.e Android 2.2 Froyo, but the problem is that there is a feature of the new 2.2 version that the Droid does not support according to Verizon. Its the hotspot creation feature that was introduced in Android 2.2 Froyo. The problem is that the hardware of the Droid does not support the wifi hotspot creation feature so the users of this awesome device will have to suffer. Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney said that the first DROID, “doesn’t have [the] hardware to support the mobile hotspot.” 

But the text above is no truth as long as we are talking about the hardware, because we have seen that the feature has been working on the rooted Droid running Android 2.2 Froyo. Does this mean that Verizon wants the older version of the phone to expire and is making its customers fool so the users of this phone purchase the latest version of the device…well the God know.

There have been reports and complaints about the working of wifi on HTC Evo 4G, so guys at AndroidCentral have performed a little test to find out what’s the difference between the wifi speed and coverage of Droid, Nexus One and Evo 4G. They have used Wifi Analyzer app that is available in the Android Market. Check out what they found out by performing this test.

Looking at the above results clearly indicate that there is a big difference in the working of Wifi of the three discussed models. Apart from all other features Wifi of HTC Evo 4G has not impressed a lot of people and we can’t say that if it is a hardware issue or they can fix it with a software update. Only time will tell.

Own a Moto Droid? Then here’s a news that is good and tasty. Android 2.2 Froyo has been ported on Motorola’s Droid. Droid is one of the most successful Android phone and now it has got Android 2.2 update. MyDroidWorld has posted about this on their forum with download links for you to download the Rom. One bad thing is that wifi is not working at least for now and we hope that it gets fixed as soon as possible.

We do not recommend you to update but what we think is you should wait for the official update that might come soon or you should wait for the Wifi fix if you are use to it. ROM is already rooted with new SuperUser installed.

Install Instructions Clockwork Recovery:
1) Download file
2) Extract folder named 2010-06-05.06.15.32
3) Place folder 2010-06-05.06.15.32 in the /sdcard/clockwork/backup folder on your sdcard
4) Restart phone in recovery
5) Go to nandroid, select restore, select the above folder and press the camera button.

Install Instructions SP Recovery:
1) Download file
2) Extract folder named froyo-BS-20100605-0547
3) Place BS-20100605-0547 in the /sdcard/nandroid folder on your sdcard
4) Restart phone in recovery
5) Go to Backup/Restore, select advanced restore, select the above folder and press the camera button.
