Apple’s App Store, that turned three years old yesterday and is the backbone of Apple’s iOS ecosystem is going strong as always. According to a report by Piper Jaffray, iOS users are now buying 61 percent more applications for their iOS gadgets than they bought last year. On average a user who downloaded 51 apps in 2010 will download 83 apps in the year 2011, a 61 percent increase year over year.

Users are also spending more on apps this year when compared to the average of their expenditures last year. ASP (Average Selling Price) of apps is up by 14 percent this year, and users are also paying more to add features and download games to their iOS devices than they did last year.

6th Planet game for iOS devices has been updated to version 1.1 and is free to download for today. 6th Planet is a fun arcade-style game for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad in which you have to control a spaceship, that has been sent to Saturn with a monkey on board. According to a post by a Google employee Erica Joy on her Google+ account, Google+ app for iOS devices is now awaiting approval by Apple in the App Store. The app for Google+ is already available for Android devices and soon iOS users with Google+ accounts will be able to use the new social network with a native iOS app.

“the Google+ iPhone app has been submitted to the App store (no not today, sometime prior to today) and is awaiting approval.”

If everything went according to the plan and if Apple feels that the app is ready to go in the App Store then we should expect that the app will be available within a week.

Google+ is not yet open for public and is still in beta stages. It would be very interesting if Google releases an iPad dedicated app as well, keeping in mind that its competitor and the largest social network of the world Facebook does not have an iPad app.

Wi-Fi Finder app for iOS devices lets users to find available active Wi-Fi hotspot near them. The app uses Google Maps to indicate where the Wi-Fi hotspot is available and also provides turn-by-turn navigation to that spot.
