A low cost computer maker company Cherrypal has announced their tablet that has been named CherryPad America. CherryPad America is a Android 2.1 Powered tablet with a Tag price of $188 the tablet with a size of 7-inch touchscreen an 800MHz ARM11 processor, 2GB of flash storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, built-in WiFi, and a 3200 mAh battery that promises six to eight hours of use and also will have a full access to the android market. They insist in their press release that “Cherrypad is neither an iPad killer nor an iPad clone, it’s a completely different product designed for a different market.” The Most surprising part of the CherryPad is that it is available right now through a partnership with online retailer Zecozi.

According to Seybold, CherryPad has been designed for consumers who seek a lower cost, more compact tablet PC with the ability to run Android.

“The CherryPad is neither an iPad killer nor an iPad clone, it’s a completely different product designed for a different market,” Seybold said. “The screen of the CherryPad is only 7-inches big, the processor is slightly less powerful, and the CherryPad comes with Android 2.1 and not Apple’s iOS.” At a MSRP of $188, the price for a CherryPad is also less than half of the iPad.

Do you like Samsung’s TouchWiz on your Samsung Galaxy S? If not then you would love this one has a hacker has ported the stock Android 2.1 on this phone. Samsung ships the phone with TouchWiz but it seems as many users and most of the developers prefer to have the stock Android 2.1 instead of the custom user interface. UK Streak owners already have got their hands on an Eclair beta and now you can do it too. He has posted the instructions and by following them you can get Eclair running on your Streak.

• You’ll need to flash Koush’s custom Recovery
• Install the Modaco ROM and flash stock Recovery
• Download the 2.1 package
• Install the 2.1 beta from Recovery
• The last step of rooting is of course optional.

The bugs that have occured are that the auto-rotate does not seem to be working and it is no longer possible to drag apps from the drop-down application list to the Home screen. We hope to see the fix to that soon.

Here is a piece of hardware that looks like a Nokia N8 phone but unlike that it runs Android 2.1 instead of Symbian platform, This clone phone has a 3.5-inches WVGA touchscreen, and has a HDMI output, and gives a RockChip logo at the start up screen but we are not sure that it is actually powered with that chip or not. It sports a 5 Megapixel camera.

The phone is expected to release at the end of this month.

Above is a chart that tells us about the situation of Android versions on devices. At the moment 59.7% of the total Android devices are powered by Android 2.1, previously this figure was 55.5 percent. Android 2.2 that is popularly known as Froyo currently powers 4.5% of the total devices and 35% is of all the devices is powered by older version i.e 20% for Android 1.6 and 15% for Android 1.5.

More and more devices are getting Froyo day by day so the number is going to get better than 4.5% in the coming days for Android 2.2.

As you might have read Verizon has finally given Android 2.1 update to its users. You might have got the notification but in case you haven’t here is the way to do it. Android central has written the following procedure that will help you in updating your Droid to Android 2.1.

1. Download the update from any of these links. [Official link | Link | Link ] (Note to Mac users: Don’t use Safari as it may try to extract the files rather than just download them.)
2. Rename the file to “update.zip” if it isn’t already. (Note that if you’re using Windows, just change the name to “update” — without the quotes.
3. Put the file in the root (aka main folder) of your microSD card. (You can pull the card from the phone)
4. With your Droid turned off, hold down the letter “x” on the keyboard and then hold down the power button. You should soon see a triangle with an exclamation point inside.
5. Now for the tricky part. Press the volume up button and the camera button at the same time. (This usually takes me a few tries.)
6. You should now be in the bootloader. Use the D-pad to choose “update from .zip file” and choose the update. Let things run their course.

Done!….Note: Do not try this if you are not good and wait for the official update because it could be dangerous if you don’t have the clear knowledge.

Motorola and Verizon as reported have given the official Android 2.1 update for Droid. A lot of people have received the notification that is asking them to upgrade. Sprint employee has shared a recent internal memo on XDA-Developers forum, revealing that Sprint is “actively working on having the Android 2.1 platform available to our Hero and Moment customers over the coming weeks,” Sprint last month tweeted that it is working to bring Android 2.1 update for its Hero and Moment customers in the second quarter of this year and this thread from the forums also indicate that we could will see the update coming this April.

HTC Desire has debuted today officially by making desires of many a reality. Its an Android 2.1 powered phone with HTC Sense. It has 3.7-inch capacitive AMOLED screen at 480×800 pixels, with 1GHz Snapdragon processor, it has a trackpad below its screen. If we take a look at its physical aspects it has four buttons at the bottom that are physical — not capacitive as on the Nexus One. These buttons are meant to perform functions that are, Home, Menu, Back and Search. Check out the full specs here

Bad news for those of you hoping for an American release because the HTC Desire is a European/Asian device at the moment, sporting the 900 and 2100 bands for 3G. It will be available in March.

Acer is there at MWC in Barcelona and has just announced one more Android device i.e the Acer Liquid e. The main thing is that it will have Android 2.1 on-board from day one. No release or price dates are revealed but full specs are given to the media. It has Snapdragon 768 MHz that is the only thing that has disappointed us. Some other specs include a 5 megapixel camera, Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, and 3.5″ WVGA. Detailed spec chart is given here so check it out.
