According to a report published by Dutch Mobile company Distimo, app developers earn more by developing apps for iOS devices than they do developing for Android. Distimo revealed that developing free/paid apps for Google’s Android is not as fruitful as iOS stating that 25 percent of free apps and 79 percent of paid app in the Android Market have been downloaded just 100 or lesser times.

In this report Distimo has also revealed that only two paid apps in Android Market have crossed 500,000 downloads mark worldwide, whereas there are six apps in Apple’s App Store that have crossed 500,000 downloads mark over two years just in the US. Distimo also notes “The top 10 free and top 10 paid applications together have seen only 26 applications in the Google Android Market, while there have been 94 applications in the top 10 free and paid in the Apple App Store for iPhone,”

Other stats revealed in this report are:

  • Most of the Apps found in Google’s Android Market are free.
  • Google’s Android Market has 71,801 paid apps.
  • App Store has 211,369 paid apps.
  • Only one app has crossed 50 million downloads i.e Google Maps app.
