Apple’s App Store, that turned three years old yesterday and is the backbone of Apple’s iOS ecosystem is going strong as always. According to a report by Piper Jaffray, iOS users are now buying 61 percent more applications for their iOS gadgets than they bought last year. On average a user who downloaded 51 apps in 2010 will download 83 apps in the year 2011, a 61 percent increase year over year.

Users are also spending more on apps this year when compared to the average of their expenditures last year. ASP (Average Selling Price) of apps is up by 14 percent this year, and users are also paying more to add features and download games to their iOS devices than they did last year.
