Openssh Cydia app for iPhone

Openssh is one of the most popular apps for the jailbroken iPhones as it comes in the top ten most used Cydia apps. It is the must have iPhone app as it allows the user to transfer files from his computer to his phone. Openssh requires wi-fi connection and can not run without it. Following steps will guide you through to how to install and use Cydia app Openssh.

1. You will need to have a jailbroke iPhone or iPod Touch in order to SSH into your iPhone or iPod Touch.

2. Now go into Cydia and search for the OpenSSH application. If it is not already installed, you will need to install it.

3. Then you will need some type of SSH client installed on your computer. WinSCP is great for PCs.

4. To sign into the iPhone

  • the Host Name is the iPhone’s IP address which you can find by going into your Settings application on your iPhone (or iPod Touch) and then into the Wi-fi option, click on the little arrow next to the Wi-Fi you are connected to and find the IP address.
  • The username is          root
  • password is                  alpine

5. On an iPhone 3GS, you will need to change the File Protocol to SCP. The default is most likely SFTP which is for iPhone 2G users.

After logging in you can Add files to your iPhone of your choice.

For themes you will need to browse to /Library/Themes directory on your iPhone, And now copy the file into this folder
