Here is a video in which a Youtube user has compared the displays of iPod Touch 4, iPhone 4 and previous iPod touches. The new iPod touch and iPhone 4 have got the all new Retina display. But when we talk about the new iPod touch although it has the retina display but it lacks IPS found on iPhone 4 so that differentiates the displays of iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4. The new iPod touch has the retina display and 960X640 resolution @ 326ppi whereas previous iPod touches sported only 480X320 resolution @ 163ppi. Check out the difference in the video embedded here.
