There is an App called Inrix for iPhone from Inrix. This amazing app tells you about the traffic situation on the route you are own. It tells whether theres a jam or not and even tells if some accident has taken place on the route you are on.
Inrix has launched a direct to consumer application for the iPhone that will have you checking what the traffic is like now, and what predicted traffic will be in the near future. So it can also tell calculate a future jam as well isn’t that cool. The interface is clean and comes with incident reporting. The data comes from their broad “Smart Driver Network” or GPS probe vehicles and road sensors. They claim to have the largest crowd sourced network in the world with over 1 million vehicles on it. The app can evem tell you the traffic situation of the next hour as well. Inrix has been supplying same information to BMW’s as well that they use in their navigation systems. The Inrix Traffic app uses a particularly simple interface, a map of your area (located using GPS) that shows traffic flow information and incidents on local roadways.
Inrix gathers its information from a variety of sources, including local traffic authorities, commercial fleet vehicles that serve as traffic probes, and event schedules, such as sports games. The Inrix Traffic app adds another information source: you. Install and run the app, and it reports its speed and location to Inrix servers, enhancing the quality of the traffic data. Inrix not only uses this information to create a live report, but it also studies the data to understand historical trends, thereby being able to provide its unique traffic forecasting service.
As with most traffic reporting services, coverage is limited to major roads and freeways in specific regions. According to Inrix, it has coverage in 126 cities in the U.S.
