Apple has today released a new software update for Apple TV that brings several new features to the device. This update adds a new functionality to Apple TV that allows users to stream their purchased iTunes TV Shows to their Apple TV.

John Gruber of DaringFireball reveals the following information about the Apple TV.

You can buy — not just rent but buy — new episodes directly from your Apple TV, and access and stream any TV show episodes you’ve previously purchased using your iTunes account. (I’m not quite sure if it has all episodes — but it’s showing me all the TV shows I can remember buying from iTunes.)

This new update also brings Vimeo video content to Apple TV.
