CultofMac reports by quoting a previously reliable source that Apple is going to discontinue Magic Mouse and completely replace it with the Magic Trackpad. Their ‘retail source’ says that the Magic Mouse inventory is not being replenished for Apple Store which potentially means that Apple is phasing out the Magic Mouse once in for all.
This move makes full sense now as recently released OS X Lion heavily focuses on gestures made on the trackpad by human fingers instead of a mouse-like pointing device. These trackpads are very similar to the one’s found on Apple’s notebook Mac line up.
The question that arises here is that are users ready to drop world’s most popular pointing device and jump into the future with iPad like touch gestures on their desktop computers? We know Apple is very keen in dropping technologies of the past and leap forward into the future, as it recently removed DVD-ROM from the Mac Mini.
